Frequently asked questions
Is ilync free to use?
Yes. Core features — URL shortening, basic analytics, and link-in-bio pages — are free. We may introduce paid plans in the future with advanced features, but existing free functionality will remain available.
Do I need an account?
You can shorten URLs without an account, but you'll need one to save links, manage API keys, create a link-in-bio page, or access full analytics. Accounts are free and support Google sign-in or email/password.
Are my links permanent?
Short links persist until you delete them or they expire (if you set an expiration). We may clean up very old inactive links periodically. We recommend saving important links to your account.
Short links
How do I create a short link?
Paste any URL into the shorten form on the homepage, or use the API. You can optionally set a custom code, expiration date, and visibility mode (public, unlisted, or private).
Can I choose a custom short code?
Yes. When shortening, you can specify a custom code (e.g., ilync.dev/my-promo). Custom codes must be unique across the platform and follow our
naming rules.
What happens when a link expires?
Expired links return an HTTP 410 (Gone) status. Visitors will see a message indicating the link has expired. Expired links may be automatically cleaned up after a grace period.
How do I view analytics for my link?
Visit the link's stats page at /your-code/stats for public links, or check the analytics section in your account
dashboard. You'll see total clicks, clicks over time, and breakdowns
by platform and country.
Link in bio
How do I create my link-in-bio page?
Go to /link while signed in. Choose a username, add your social profiles and custom buttons, and hit save. Your public page will be at /@yourusername.
Can I change my username?
Yes. Edit your username in the bio editor and save. Your old URL will stop working — update any shared links. Usernames that conflict with existing short codes or are reserved cannot be used.
How many links can I add?
You can add up to 40 links to your bio page — a mix of social profiles (Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.) and custom buttons (newsletters, shops, portfolios, and more).
Can I see who clicked my bio links?
Yes. Each link on your bio page now has individual click tracking. You can see per-link click counts in the bio editor, and total page visits are tracked automatically.
Account & billing
How do I delete my account?
Visit your account page and use the delete account option. This will permanently remove your data, links, and bio page. This action cannot be undone.
How do I reset my password?
If you signed up with email/password, use the "Forgot password" flow on the sign-in page. If you signed in with Google, your authentication is managed by Google.
API & developers
How do I get an API key?
Sign in to your account and navigate to the API keys section. You can create and revoke keys from there. Keep your keys secret — they grant full access to your account's API capabilities.
What are the rate limits?
Rate limits vary by endpoint and whether you're authenticated. Check the documentation for detailed limits. If you hit a limit, you'll receive an HTTP 429 response.
Where is the API documentation?
Full API docs are available at /docs, including endpoints for creating, managing, and analyzing short links.
